As a Kendo competitor in middle school, everyone assumed as a freshman, Ayumu would join his high school Kendo Club. He instead joined the Shogi Club, as he’s attracted to second year student Urushi, but he’s sworn not to tell her his feelings until he’s won a match against her. Unfortunately for him, Urushi is really good at Shogi, the board game that's referred to as Japanese chess.
So Ayumu knows he has to get better to succeed, but he’s unaware that she knows he has feelings for her, and also that she actually has feelings for him but is too shy to admit it.
